HALFPIPE
"California's skateboard culture in the 1970s was a part of my youth. My younger brother was a skateboarder and had no fear. Down the hill, near the bottom of Royal Blvd., one of our neighbors had built a halfpipe at the end of their driveway. The only halfpipes I encounter nowadays, are in terrain parks at ski mountains. I can barely maneuver on a snowboard, but my brother continues to attempt McTwists."

CALISOLE
"Calisole©" is inspired by the honeycomb and diamond design on the sole of the most popular sneaker on the surf & skate scene. Vans® were all the rage back in the '70s and still are today. The two-toned lace-ups were what all of the kids in grade school wore -- girls and boys alike. The checkered slip ons, are a personal fave. Skateboarding is rad, and the iconic waffle design on the bottom of the shoe reflects that. Both will always be part of the California soul."

HALFPIPE TWO
"This is the original sketch I drew when I was conceptualizing the Halfpipe pattern. The outline of the design shows the hand-drawn quality with its variations -- each halfpipe is different from the one next to it in the repeat. When the first round of strike-offs came back to me, I was so drawn to the outlined pattern, that I decided to add it to the collection. It's a subtle version of it's bolder counterpart, Halfpipe©."

PLAYLIST
Paying homage to making cassette tapes for friends in the 80s, Cecilia captures her favorite songs, as well as her friends Patty's, Tracy's and Kiki's. From Hip Hop to Alternative to Classic Rock, reminisce with music that stirs the soul. "Patty's Playlist" soars with George Michael's "Freedom."

ROYAL BLVD.
"Royal Boulevard is a beautiful palm-tree lined street into my childhood neighborhood. Driving through it feels very majestic. Thirty of the homes along a stretch of Royal Boulevard are part of the Historic District which includes a mix of Period Revival homes -- Spanish Colonial Revival, Tudor Revival, and French-inspired designs -- built between 1927 and 1948. The architecture has that Old Hollywood feel, and takes me back to the days when we'd trick-or-treat up and down the the street."

Bradley Road is the name of the street where I played in the lemon groves as a kid, on my aunt and uncle's ranch. In 3 hues of yellows, this pattern can translate to oranges, or limes, or a mysterious New England blue citrus fruit.
WALLPAPER

LINE STUDY
As a college art student, Cecilia studied shading and shadows with a line technique in her drawing classes. This pattern comes straight out of her art portfolio and looks leafy and textural.

BRADLEY ROAD
Lemons will always remind me of my childhood. My aunt and uncle's ranch on Bradley Road is situated amongst over 200 acres of lemon trees. When we were kids, my cousins, siblings and I would play "hide-n-seek" games in the groves, and our visits ended with brown paper bags filled with lemons to take home.

SYCAMORE AVE.
"My mom is one of nine kids. Her sister (my aunt) is the musical talent of the nine, and for a period of time, was my piano teacher. As a kid, weekend visits at her house were frequent, and in between piano lessons, we'd spend hours in their swimming pool, playing Marco Polo, or getting into other childhood mischief. This contemporary graphic pattern is the shape of that swimming pool on Sycamore Ave., and symbolic of many fond memories of outdoor fun with our massive family."

LEAF ABSTRACT
Cecilia pieced together one of her college drawings -- originally created with watercolor, charcoals and ink -- and the organic lines took the form of leafs.

Exciting to see my Calisole wallpaper over on @elementstyle ‘s blog in a Q&A with local Boston Designer, Sarah Scales.
Cecilia's textiles are created from hand-drawn designs inspired by the stories of her life --- with the names of streets and memories of growing up in California...sketches from her college art portfolio...an homage of her favorite Playlists, and most recently a collaboration with Elizabeth Benedict for a cause.
